Only 16 days before I take on London again ❤

Where breakfast is brunch. The coffee cup the best accessorie. Monday to Sunday cocktails. Yoga on Wednesdays. Cupcake breaks in Oxford Street. Fashion left and right. Lazy Saturdays morning.  Sunday breakfast in bed served with the latest gossip. And that is why I’m in love with London.

Accommodation guide for international students in London

leave a comment »

Where to start looking:

http://www.gumtree.co.uk, www.rightmove.co.uk & www.primelocation.com

Above is three links to my top three real-estate website. In addition the University, will normally have some links on their homepage. It is also important to notice the letters behind the price. PCM stands for per month, PPPW stands for per person per week and PW for per week.

This is what you should be expecting to pay:

  • A fee to get the advert removed from the website.
  • A holding deposit. After paying this deposit the landlord will review you as a tenant. If the landlord rejects you as an tenant, then the holding deposit will be refunded.
  • If you are accepted you will also pay an administration fee for the agency.
  • In addition to the house rent, usually extra bills are not included.

Note: As an international student you will need to pay the whole house rent at once. Only if you have a British guarantor is it possible to pay for some months at a time. Nevertheless if you are going to have an guarantor. You need to pay a guarantor fee, which you only pay once. This is because the agency need to do a background check on the person you put down as the guarantor.

Things to think about when apartment hunting:

  • Personally I’ll never say yes to a place without viewing it. Or letting someone i trust go for a viewing.
  • Before paying anything make sure the company actually exist. yes this is common sense but people for some reason do not always use it.
  • Also don’t jump on the first house you see, it is alright to be a little picky.
  • As an international student, you might want to go home for the summer. Normally the tenancy agreement is for a whole year. But there are some whom will agree to an 9 month teancy agreement. Or even a 6 months and then one month notice advance before moving out. This is difficult to get but not impossible.

A London secret: places to eat

with 21 comments

Some people eat to live, while I live to eat. I get alot of questions related to London and after ” where to go shopping” is ” where to eat”. Now I do update my London page frequently so my first answer will be to have a look there. But here is a short post over some places to eat in London.

Italian: I recommend a resturant called Nino seafood and steak. I ate here when we went out to celebrate Elin’s birthday. Another resturant is Bella Italia, this place is really nice and cosy. Further I also recommend Ristorante Italiano which is near hyde park.

American: Pizza Hut, Pizza express and of course TGI Fridays. But personally I would recommend having a look at the amount of calories when ordering.

Indian: Now I must admit I am not a huge fan of indian food, but I have eaten at a resturant called The Indian. When we went out to celebrate Sylvia’s birthday, and the food here was good. In addition they made really good cocktails, I had a strawberry cocktail with cream.

British: Egg and bacon? yes but there is also more to british food. One of my favorite places is The Dovecote, which is in the middle of Collindale and Hendon. The food here is really cheap and good. Further the right dresscode would be causal, which is another thing I like. But if you are looking for something more fancy I do recommend Angus Steakhouse at leister square.

A London secret: Camden Town, Day and Night

with 10 comments

Camden Town is another place I like in London, this place is also located on the Northern line. During the day one can have a look at Camden Lock Village Market. Here you will see art, different type of food, accessories, bags and much more. Both my friends Carina and Christina loved it, when they came  over to visit. I have no idea of have many times I been to this market, but it is still one of my favorite places in London.

Camden is also a great place to go clubbing during the night. There are lot of different clubs with different type of music. Have a look at the London page here to see what I personally recommend.

Primrose Hill is one of my favorite places in central London. It is beautiful area on the northern line (chalk farm). Last time when I had lunch there with Sylvia, we spotted a place called Sweet things. This place is heaven for all cupcakes lovers. I had a vanilla cupcake and I swear it is one of the best cupcake i have ever had.

In the heart of London, in the streets of Oxford and in the middle of TopShop you can have a cupcake break. Do not know about you, but that is just another reason why I love TopShop.
